Teaching Artistic Behaviors (TAB)
The Studio Habits of Mind are artistic behaviors that develop students’ thinking dispositions. The art making in Lyon’s inquiry based student choice environment encourages Lyon artists to:
Develop Craft while practicing new art skills and techniques and experimenting with media
Engage and Persist while focusing on their artwork and working through challenges
Envision while planning next steps, designing, and imagining
Stretch and Explore while experimenting, and discover new possibilities
Express a feeling or an idea, tell a story, or communicate a message or opinion
Observe while noticing details, different perspectives, and comparing and contrasting Reflect, while creating their art, on successes and possibilities for improvement
Understand the Art Community while investigating artists and using classmates feedback and inspiration
These are the 8 researched Artistic Behaviors that are integrated into and explicitly taught throughout our Inquiry Process in the Lyon Art Studio.
